Kick-off meeting ReCreating Europe

Two days to mark the beginning of the Horizon 2020 project “reCreating Europe”, which aims at writing a new page in the European debate on digital copyright, creative industries, cultural policy and regulation of the Internet. The consortium, coordinated by Caterina Sganga and featuring from Sant’Anna School Alessandro Nuvolari and Arianna Martinelli (Institute of Economics) and Giovanni Comandé (Institute of Law, Politics and Development) has received a funding of over 3 million euro, and involves ten among the best European institutions in the field.

Access to culture and freedom of expression, models of digital creativity, filters and controls exercised by internet platforms, protection and preservation of European cultural diversity are some of reCreating Europe’s key focus areas. The project aims at providing data and studies and formulate proposals which may support and inspire future legislative and policy reforms in the EU.

26 representatives of the ten consortium partners are attending the event, coming from Universiteit van Amsterdam (Olanda), University of Glasgow (UK), Alexander von Humboldt – Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft Gmbh (Germania), Stichting Liber (Olanda), National University of Ireland Maynooth, Tartu Ulikool (Estonia), Università degli Studi di Trento (Italia), Kobenhavns Universitet (Danimarca), Szegedi Tudomanyegyetem (Ungheria).

Among the speakers, reCreating Europe welcomes three policy officers from the European Commission, representing the Copyright Unit of Directorate-General for  for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT), the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), and the Research Executive Agency (REA).
